When it comes to sustainable transportation, our approach is quite simple – little things can make a big difference. And at Enterprise Holdings, corporate sustainability is an ongoing pursuit to shrink our impact.

That’s why we say “Let’s go small, and come up huge.”

For example, Enterprise Holdings recycles, repurposes and reduces materials wherever possible. Our thorough vehicle maintenance program also helps lower costs, divert waste from landfills and reduce reliance on non-recycled materials.

Let's Go Small

Managing Materials Responsibly: From hood to trunk: Little things can make a big difference. From ice scrapers and snowbrushes to wheels, wheel covers and hubcaps, Enterprise Holdings remains focused on recycling, repairing, refurbishing and remanufacturing materials to extend their use and keep them out of landfills.
Recycling Windshields: A clear view: When vehicle glass or windshields are cracked or damaged, it isn’t the end of the road. Enterprise Holdings partners with windshield repair companies to recycle damaged auto glass, diverting more than 1,000 tons of waste from landfills each year.
Prioritizing Fuel Efficiency: Fueling the future: More miles per gallon means lower fuel costs and less carbon emissions for our customers. That’s why Enterprise, Alamo and National offer fuel-efficient transportation options. In the U.S. and Canada more than 80 percent of our vehicles, including light-duty trucks and SUVs, average at least 24 mpg on the highway, and more than half achieve 24 mpg or better combined (highway and city) fuel efficiency. We’re also proud to offer Hybrids and other alternatives in key areas.
Renewing License Plates: Renewing Plates: Enterprise, National and Alamo partner with state governments all over the United States to recycle and re-register license plates. Today, 90 percent of our U.S. fleet is currently equipped with either transferred or recycled plates.
Using Water-Based Paints: Changing the color scheme: When it comes to vehicle exteriors, it’s about more than just good looks. Wherever possible, Enterprise Holdings partners with collision repair centers that share our commitment to using water-based paints rather than oil-based options.
Re-Refining Oil and Recycling Filters: Closed loop recycling: Because oil is a finite resource that helps power global transportation, we recycle and re-refine used motor oil to help ensure a sustainable supply. Every year Enterprise Holdings re-refines more than 1 million gallons of oil for reuse in our fleet and recycles 1 million oil filters – representing 95 percent of all oil and virtually every filter used in our North American service centers. In fact, Enterprise Holdings has re-refined more than 11 million gallons of oil since 2009. In 2017, the Ethical Corporation honored Enterprise Holdings as a Responsible Business Awards finalist in the “Supplier Engagement of the Year” category. Repurposing Tires: Where the rubber meets the road: Just because we take used tires off the road doesn’t mean they’ve reached the end of their use. Through partnerships with local and regional recycling centers, Enterprise Holdings repurposes 2,000 tons of used tire rubber each year. Some are even recycled to become new tires, starting the cycle all over again.
