Enterprise has been delivering transportation alternatives right where people live and work for six decades. Forty years after our founding in 1957, Enterprise Rent-A-Car (ECAR) trademarked the term Virtual Car® as a way to capture the strength and energy of local car rental – whether it’s for an hour, a day, a week or longer. Enterprise Rent-A-Car featured the “virtual car” concept in a Toronto newspaper ad as early as 1997.

Our intuitive neighborhood business model now features a wide variety of programs, including car rental, car leasing, vanpooling, carsharing and ride-matching, in towns and cities of all sizes. Enterprise continues to lead the neighborhood market with both car-rental and carsharing options, and is renowned for offering affordable, accessible and flexible service in towns and cities of all sizes.

As a result of this unique grassroots network, Enterprise is able to quickly and efficiently introduce millions of drivers to new fuel and vehicle technology. In addition, our network makes it possible to provide sustainable mobility options to consumers who rely on mass transit during the week in large urban markets, and to those who simply cannot afford to purchase or maintain a vehicle on their own.
